Mexico Day

As we've been studying different countries from around the world this year, the kids have learned a lot and have come to learn just how different cultures can be.  My dad offered to host a "Mexico Day" since he served his mission there.  He taught the kids about all kids of things like money, music, dance, and even taught them some basic Spanish.

After his lesson we went to a Mexican grocery store and tortillaria and picked up a few different foods.  We had Mexican strawberry soda, with tortillas and refried beans for lunch (served without a fork of course.  The kids were really weirded out by the proper way of eating refried beans -- scooping it up with a tortilla).  

Then we sampled different Mexican baked goods.  We had cinnamon buns and these yummy strawberry churro type things.  It was all delicious.

Later we went to the park because it was such a warm day!

I crack up over these pictures that make it look like my dad is just staring.  Ha!  Thad loves it when Papa pushes him on the swing.

Not long ago I asked Thad what his favorite thing in the whole world was.  His answer?  "Papa."

So the next day when we saw Papa I asked Thad the same question and he answered, "Poop."

Thad.  *eye roll*

"Snowmageddon"

This video basically sums up the "Snowmageddon" we were supposed to get.  Everyone was saying we were supposed to get 6-9" in 24 hours.  We were stoked.  My parents, sister, and I all recorded ourselves doing snow dances.  The kids and I had hot chocolate in front of the fire.  All week we were counting down the hours until the snow would come.  And then.... it sort of didn't.

*sigh*

We went out to play anyway.

"Thad stop licking the driveway."

"But I like it."

"Thad, stop licking the grass."

"THAD STOP LICKING THE CAR!"

"Ella, come ride in the sled with me.  It's fun."

"Alright..... oh maybe not."

"Okay, I'll do it.  Nope, nevermind.  Okay, I'll try.  Just kidding.  I'm definitely not trying it."

She did go sledding several times but there's no proof since I'm the one with the camera and she would only go with me.

Ah.  Thad in his pink mittens, smiley face boots, and monkey hat.

We played outside a lot, introduced the kids to Anne of Green Gables, made Korean BBQ burritos, and then made dulce de leche since we studied Argentina this week.  The lack of snow was a disappointment, but we managed to turn it into a really fun day.
